Lake O’ The Woods – Dec. 22-27, 2006

We made it to Lake of the Woods (LOW) in about 2 hours. Traffic was good, considering everyone else was trying to get as far away from Dallas as possible too. LOW is a pretty quiet little resort on the shore Lake Palestine. I can’t believe how down the lake is. I will take some pictures but it is was down under where Lake Whitney was last time I saw it. The resort itself is nice. The cabins are a bit tight for three people and two dogs but we’ve settled into cabin 5 very nicely. Last night we found a nice little hole in the wall in Coffee City (population 500) to have some catfish. It was good (not as good as your’s, Mel) and I think the entire town of Coffee City except the speed trap cop eats there on Friday nights. We had an agreement not to exchange a lot of presents this year, but somehow we brought in 3 big bins of boxes full of gifts. Stay tuned, there will be pictures!

I am glad I did not fall for the, “let’s not exchange a lot of presents this year” scam last time I got to spend Christmas with you guys. I would have felt really bad showing up empty handed then leaving with my wheelbarrow full of cool stuff. Eat some catfish for me – I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!!!!

There was a nice steady gentle rain all night long. Sleeping in the top of the loft under a tin roof, I believe it was the most relaxing night of rest I have had in a long time.

Its Christmas Eve, and we have just taken inventory of everything we need for the festivities….mainly food and alcohol. Roseanna and Mom have made the commitment to build a gingerbread house. I haven’t seen any action on that – not even a foundation – so I will keep on top of that situation. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy some french toast.

Two little kitty cats have befriended us. I felt so bad for them that I drove 14 miles to Wal-Mart and got cat food. Roseanna has named them Fred and Ethel. Fred is more friendly than Ethel – she seems like she might have a slight attitude.

Okay, I confess, I also got a few other things at Wal-Mart; it wasn’t just about the cat.

We had planned to stay until today, but after a couple of days of cabin fever, we decided to come home yesterday. You know, after Christmas is over, its over! So we loaded up and headed back to Mansfield.

Lake O’ the Woods is a great Silberleaf Resort. It is a bit more rustic than the typical RCI condo, but still with the comforts of home.
